但在教会中，宁可用悟性说五句教导人的话，强如说万句方言。Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
律法上记着，主说，我要用外邦人的舌头，和外邦人的嘴唇，向这百姓说话。虽然如此，他们还是不听从我。In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the LORD.
这样看来，说方言，不是为信的人作证据，乃是为不信的人。作先知讲道，不是为不信的人作证据，乃是为信的人。Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
所以全教会聚在一处的时候，若都说方言，偶然有不通方言的，或是不信的人进来，岂不说你们癫狂了吗。If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
若都作先知讲道，偶然有不信的，或是不通方言的人进来，就被众人劝醒，被众人审明。But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
他心里的隐情显露出来，就必将脸伏地，敬拜神，说神真是在你们中间了。And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
弟兄们，这却怎吗样呢。你们聚会的时候，各人或有诗歌，或有教训，或有启示，或有方言，或有翻出来的话。凡事都当造就人。How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
若有说方言的，只好两个人，至多三个人，且要轮流说，也要一个人翻出来。If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
