耶稣出来，戴着荆棘冠冕，穿着紫袍。彼拉多对他们说，你们看这个人。Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

祭司长和差役看见他，就喊着说，钉他十字架，钉他十字架。彼拉多说，你们自己把他钉十字架吧。我查不出他有什么罪来。When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

犹太人回答说，我们有律法，按那律法，他是该死的，因他以自己为神的儿子。The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

彼拉多听见这话，越发害怕。When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;

又进衙门，对耶稣说，你是那里来的。耶稣却不回答。And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

彼拉多说，你不对我说话吗。你岂不知我有权柄释放你，也有权柄把你钉十字架吗。Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?

耶稣回答说，若不是从上头赐给你的，你就毫无权柄辨我。所以把我交给你的那人，罪更重了。Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

从此彼拉多想要释放耶稣。无奈犹太人喊着说，你若释放这个人，就不是凯撒的忠臣。（原文作朋友）凡以自己为王的，就是背叛凯撒了。And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

彼拉多听见这话，就带耶稣出来，到了一个地方，名叫铺华石处，希伯来话叫厄巴大，就在那里坐堂。When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

那日是逾越节的日子，约有午正。彼拉多对犹太人说，看哪，这是你们的王。And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
