我写这话，不是叫你们羞愧，乃是警戒你们，好像我所亲爱的儿女一样。I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.

左咡

你们学基督的，师傅虽有一万，为父的却是不多，因我在基督耶稣里用福音生了你们。For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

左咡

所以我求你们效法我。Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.

左咡

因此我已打发提摩太到你们那里去。他在主里面，是我所亲爱有忠心的儿子。他必题醒你们，记念我在基督里怎样行事，在各处各教会中怎样教导人。For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

有些人自高自大，以为我不到你们那里去。Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.

左咡

然而主若许我，我必快到你们那里去。并且我所要知道的，不是那些自高自大之人的言语，乃是他们的权能。But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

左咡

因为神的国不在乎言语，乃在乎权能。For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

你们愿意怎吗样呢。是愿意我带着刑杖到你们那里去呢，还是要我存慈爱温柔的心呢。What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?

左咡

风闻在你们中间有淫乱的事。这样的淫乱，连外邦人中也没有，就是有人收了他的继母。It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

你们还是自高自大，并不哀痛，把行这事的人从你们中间赶出去。And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
