说，若有人用衣襟兜圣肉，这衣襟挨着饼，或汤，或酒，或油，或别的食物，便算为圣吗。祭司说，不算为圣。If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
哈该又说，若有人因摸死尸染了污秽，然后挨着这些物的那一样，这物算污秽吗。祭司说，必算污秽。Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
于是哈该说，耶和华说，这民这国，在我面前也是如此。他们手下的各样工作，都是如此。他们在坛上所献的也是如此。Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
现在你们要追想，此日以前，耶和华的殿，没有一块石头垒在石头上的光景。And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:
在那一切日子，有人来到谷堆，想得二十斗，只得了十斗。有人来到酒池，想得五十桶，只得了二十桶。Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
在你们手下的各样工作上，我以旱风，霉烂，冰雹，攻击你们。你们仍不归向我。这是耶和华说的。I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.
你们要追想此日以前，就是从这九月二十四日起，追想到立耶和华殿根基的日子。Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it.
仓里有谷种吗。葡萄树，无花果树，石榴树，橄榄树都没有结果子。从今日起，我必赐福与你们。Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
