耶稣进了殿，正教训人的时候，祭司长和民间的长老来问他说，你仗着什么权柄作这些事。给你这权柄的是谁呢。And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

耶稣回答说，我也要问你们一句话，你们若告诉我，我就告诉你们我仗着什么权柄作这些事。And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

[BR]约翰的洗礼是从那里来的。是从天上来的，是从人间来的呢。他们彼此商议说，我们若说从天上来，他必对我们说，这样，你们为什么不信他呢。The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

若说从人间来，我们又怕百姓。因为他们都以约翰为先知。But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

于是回答耶稣说，我们不知道。耶稣说，我也不告诉你们我仗着什么权柄作这些事。And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

又说，一个人有两个儿子，他来对大儿子说，我儿，你今天到葡萄园里去作工。But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

左咡

他回答说，我不去。以后自己懊悔就去了。He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

左咡

又来对小儿子也是这样说，他回答说，父阿，我去。他却不去。And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

左咡

你们想这两个儿子，是那一个遵行父命呢。他们说，大儿子。耶稣说，我实在告诉你们，税吏和娼妓，倒比你们先进神的国。Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

因为约翰遵着义路到你们这里来，你们却不信他。税吏和娼妓倒信他。你们看见了，后来还是不懊悔去信他。For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
