于是这话传在弟兄中间，说那门徒不死。其实耶稣不是说他不死。乃是说我若要他等到我来的时候，与你何干。Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
为这些事作见证，并且记载这些事的，就是这门徒。我们也知道他的见证是真的。This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
耶稣所行的事，还有许多，若是一一的都写出来，我想所写的书，就是世界也容不下去了。And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

直到他藉着圣灵吩咐所拣选的使徒，以后被接上升的日子为止。Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
他受害之后，用许多的凭据，将自己活活的显给使徒看，四十天之久向他们显现，讲说神国的事。To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
耶稣和他们聚集的时候，嘱咐他们说，不要离开耶路撒冷，要等候父所应许的，就是你们听我说过的。And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
