左咡

主人来到，看见仆人这样行，那仆人就有福了。Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

左咡

我实在告诉你们，主人要派他管理一切所有的。Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

左咡

那仆人若心里说，我的主人必来得迟。就动手打仆人和使女，并且吃喝醉酒。But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

左咡

在他想不到的日子，不知道的时辰，那仆人的主人要来，重重的处治他，或作把他腰斩了定他和不忠心的人同罪。The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

左咡

仆人知道主人的意思，却不豫备，又不顺他的意思行，那仆人必多受责打。And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

左咡

惟有那不知道的，作了当受责打的事，必少受责打因为多给谁，就向谁多取。多托谁，就向谁多要。But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

左咡

我来要把火丢在地上。倘若已经着起来，不也是我所愿意的吗。I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

左咡

我有当受的洗。还没有成就，我是何等的迫切呢。But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

左咡

你们以为我来，是叫地上太平吗。我告诉你们，不是，乃是叫人分争。Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

左咡

从今以后，一家五个人将要分争，三个人和两个人相争，两个人和三个人相争。For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
